Rabbit Vaccination Policy

- Updated February 2026 -

Rabbit Vaccination Policy

Castle Boarding – Small Animal Boarding Services

1. Purpose

The health and safety of all animals in our care is a top priority at Castle Boarding. This Rabbit Vaccination Policy outlines the vaccination requirements that must be met before rabbits can be accepted for boarding. These measures help protect all rabbits on the premises from serious infectious diseases and ensure a safe environment during their stay.

2. Required Vaccinations

All rabbits boarding at Castle Boarding must be vaccinated against the following diseases:

  • Myxomatosis

  • Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (RVHD)

    • RVHD Type 1 (RHDV1)

    • RVHD Type 2 (RHDV2)

These diseases are highly contagious and widespread in the UK. Vaccination is the most effective protection against infection and helps reduce the risk of outbreaks in boarding environments.

3. Acceptable Vaccination Protocols

Castle Boarding accepts rabbits that have been vaccinated using recognised veterinary vaccines available in the UK, including:

  • Combined Myxomatosis + RHDV1 vaccines (commonly Nobivac Myxo-RHD)

  • Separate or combined RHDV2 vaccines (e.g., Filavac or Eravac)

Rabbits must have received both Myxomatosis and RHD vaccinations covering RHDV1 and RHDV2.

Vaccinations must:

  • Be administered by a licensed veterinary surgeon

  • Be up to date according to the manufacturer’s guidelines

  • Have been given at least 14 days prior to the start of boarding to ensure immunity has developed

4. Proof of Vaccination

Owners must provide valid proof of vaccination before or at the time of check-in. Acceptable proof includes:

  • A veterinary vaccination card

  • An official veterinary record

  • Documentation from a registered veterinary practice

The record must clearly show:

  • The rabbit’s name and/or identifying details

  • The date of vaccination

  • The type of vaccine administered

  • The veterinary practice stamp or signature

Castle Boarding reserves the right to verify vaccination records with the issuing veterinary practice if necessary.

5. Failure to Provide Proof

Castle Boarding requires proof of vaccination prior to check-in.

If valid vaccination documentation cannot be provided, Castle Boarding:

  • Reserves the right to refuse boarding

  • Will not admit the rabbit to the facility

6. Refund Policy Related to Vaccination

If an owner arrives without valid proof of the required vaccinations:

  • Boarding will be refused

  • Refunds will not be issued

This policy is in place because vaccination requirements are clearly stated in advance and are essential to protect all animals in our care.

7. Health & Biosecurity Commitment

Castle Boarding follows strict hygiene and biosecurity procedures to protect boarded animals. However, due to the contagious nature of rabbit diseases, vaccination is a mandatory preventative measure.

By booking boarding with Castle Boarding, owners confirm that their rabbit:

  • Is fully vaccinated

  • Is healthy and fit for boarding

  • Has not been exposed to infectious disease prior to arrival

8. Policy Updates

Castle Boarding may update this policy in line with:

  • UK veterinary guidance

  • Emerging rabbit diseases

  • Changes to available vaccines

The most current version of this policy will always be available on the Castle Boarding website.
